While deciding which perfumes to connect to which characters, I did a little research into perfumes of the Regency era. The most popular scents in the 19th century were Lavender, Rose, Jasmine, and Citrus. With that in mind, I focused on finding fragrances with those scents, as well as scents that complemented the characters' personalities.
Elizabeth Bennet
Lizzie's a lively and spirited gal so she'd wear a scent with spicy notes, like Yardley's English Rose. The Rose, Geranium and White flowers are a great match for her romanticism, while the woodsy notes represent her down-to-earth and nature-loving side.
Fitzwilliam Darcy
This quiet gentleman would enjoy the English Oak and Hazelnut from Jo Malone. The English oak speaks to his nationality and woodsy charm (it's not a coincidence that both Pride and Prejudice films feature a lot of trees around him!). A spicy note complements that of his partner Elizabeth Bennet's perfume. A spicy, woodsy pairing for a spicy, woodsy couple!
Jane Bennet
This sweet and gentle woman would wear a light and fresh scent like this Lily of the Valley from the design house of Yardley. In addition to lilies-of-the-valley, this fragrance also contains notes of gardenia, jasmine, magnolia and geranium.
Charles Bingley
Netherfield's newest eligible bachelor would definitely spritz some Cefiro by Floris before heading to a ball. Not only is this fragrance citrussy like the perfumes of the time, but there are notes of jasmine to echo those in Jane's perfume. It also suits Bingley's warm, British, down-to-earth vibes with hints of Bergamot, warm spices and woody notes.
